nvme slot: How to connect a SATA III HDD to an M.2 SSD PCIe NVMe .... NVMe vs. M.2: What’s the difference? | IBM. Supermicro SSG-221E-NE324R | smicro.eu.
No, there’s a reason
your slot says “SATA III” and not “NVMe”. NVMe don’t use SATA connectors at all, they use PCIe lanes. Putting an NVMe drive in a SATA
slot just simply won’t work.
However, not all M.
2 slots support NVMe (some only support SATA, some only NVMe, and some either), so even if you have an
M.2 slot you'll need to double-check that yours will allow for an NVMe drive.
For 24 NVMe configurations, PCIe
slots 1,2,5,6 and
AIOM slot A2 cannot be used. 24x 2.5" hot-swap NVMe/SATA/SAS drive bays (NVMe, SATA, or SAS support requires additional parts.
